Written by Sajad Rasool

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) is a scheme launched in July 2004, for setting up residential schools at upper primary level for girls belonging predominantly to the SC, ST, OBC and minority communities.

In Aloosa area of Kupwara District, this school has badly failed to deliver because of the poor infrastructure conditions. A new building is under construction which has been left over by the authorities. 50 students sleep in a single room. The KGBV scheme was launched to provide education to the poor female children of minority community.

According to locals, the Authorities do not pay any attention towards the betterment of this school as the students belong to the Gujjar community of the area.
