In Kashmir, Indira Awaas Yojana Provides Shelter to Influential People Only

Bashir Ahmed Dar, a poor resident of Chontipora Village of Verinag in Anantnag district, is residing in a single room mud house with his two grown up children and wife. The government has introduced a scheme, Indira Awas Yojana, under which needful families like this are provided material and financial help for the construction of a concrete two roomed house. But according to Bashir, the lack of political influence makes it almost impossible for poor people like him to get such an assistance recommended. A report by Shafat Mir.
