Abandoned By In Laws, Fatima Turns To Court For Her Rights

The union of a man and a woman, recognized by law,  is widely defined as Marriage, by which they become husband and wife. It is a social union between two individuals that establishes a certain set of rights and obligations between the individuals, their children, and their respective in-laws. In many cases the marriage has become a nightmare for women as they are being subjected to beatings and taunted for minor issues leading to physical and psychological trauma. Kashmir valley too has seen a surge in domestic violence issues. According to the figures from lone Women’s police station in Srinagar, their office receives 1000-1500 complaints of domestic violence annually. Fatima, a woman from Bandipora, is one such victim who has been abandoned by her in laws since two years now. Aneesa Hamid Reports
