Tension between India and Pakistan grew after the killing of a Kashmiri rebel commander, Burhan Wani in July which resulted in deadly violence across Kashmir valley. More than 100 civilians were killed while as the number of injured people has been estimated to be 20 thousand above.

Keran town is located in the northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Line of Control which divides Pakistan and Indian controlled parts of Kashmir. This area has been witnessing heavy shelling on both the sides and locals have suffered badly. Tension on borders increased after India alleged Pakistan of supporting terrorists and attacking an Army base in Uri located in Baramula in which more than 18 Indian Jawans were killed.
