The work on Jalandhar-Samba-Amargarh power transmission line also called as, Northern Region Strengthening Scheme (NRSS-29) is going on at full pace. This project will deliver over 1,000 MW of electricity from Punjab to the Kashmir Valley by strengthening the National Grid. Under the project hundreds of acres of land is being bought from the farmers but the transmission line can cause possible damage to the orchards and other crops. The farmers are also in protest against the executing agency for being unfair to their demands. The line passes through the hundreds of villages across Baramulla and Budgam. In Bonen village of Chadora Budgam the affected people allege that their land is being forcibly occupied on a meager compensation which doesn’t meet criteria of Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act of 2013 wherein affected land owners get 4 times more compensation.

However, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has not extended the Indian Land Acquisition Act so far.
