On 22 October, 1993, around 51 civilians were shot dead by the Indian armed forces after protest broke out at Bijbehara against the siege of Hazratbal Shrine (located in Srinagar). Dr Riyaz Ahmed Ganie was 13 years old boy – who also was caught in the firing of BSF of Indian army, he received bullets in his hand, abdomen, etc and was severely injured and later survived. He completed PhD also later. Riyaz narrates ordeal of the day.
