Encounter Aftermath: Family Seeks Justice for Killed Son

Shahid Hussain Mir, son of Mansoor Ahmad Mir, of Gagran area of Shopian was killed by Indian Army during an encounter. On evening of 3rd November 2018, a gun battle broke out between militants and government forces in Gagran-Khudpora village near Shahid Mir’s residence.
Family members of the slain allege he was a civilian killed by the Army after catching hold of him a few yards away from the gunfight scene.

Shahid was at his parental home and left for his home in the same village but he did not reach his home. He went missing few hours before the encounter started.

Next day, early morning, Shahid family visited the house of Shahid and they noticed that it had been vandalized.“The window panes were smashed, other household items were damaged and there were blood stains on the fresh snow,” added Shahid’s father.  

Family also alleged he was brutally tortured by government forces before they shot him dead.

Shahid was the youngest among four siblings. He leaves behind a six-year-old son and wife. He was working as a contractor constructing buildings.
