A Village Surrounded by Freshwater Springs Lacks Access to Safe Drinking Water in Kashmir

Anderwan village in Sagam area of Kokernag area is one of the picturesque villages of Anantnag district. This village lies barely 20 kilometres from the district headquarters and is located on a hillock comprising mud houses scattered across the adjacent mountains. Having around 150 households comprising more than 400 inhabitants the village has never seen a proper water supply to their houses. The irony is that a famous freshwater spring originates from the nearby Kokernag, the water of which feeds thousands of people living several kilometres away from this place. An official from the Jal Shati department did acknowledge that the village is suffering from the want of potable water, he however said that the woes are going to get addressed as they have already initiated the process of having a proper water supply mechanism for this area
