Violence in Kashmir escalated as shutdown over the killing of a prominent local Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani, continued for the second consecutive day. Scores of injured were brought to the district hospital Anantnag from the outskirts and rural areas of this south Kashmir district. Police and paramilitary force, CRPF(Central Reserve Police Force), had fired live bullets on the protesters in Mattan, Hillar, Kelam Gund, Vailoo, Sopat, Dooru areas of Anantnag. Interestingly, these areas have been a hub of mainstream political activities in the past and did not participate actively in 2008 and 2010 uprisings of Kashmir valley. According to local sources, massive protests were going on in all these areas including many other villages of Anantnag. Reports of fatalities were pouring in from other districts of Kashmir valley and according to the official figures 23 youth had been killed in CRPF and police firing.
