Khatija Begum, in her thirties, from Dangerpora village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district was shot dead by the government sponsored gunmen, Ikhwanis, when this militia entered her village to settle some marital dispute with a neighbor, in 1996. These gunmen fired hundreds of rounds indiscriminately killing Khadija after a bullet pierced through her heart. Ikhwan in Kashmir was created on the pattern of Chhattissgarh’s Salva Judum militia back in mid-nineties as part of anti-insurgency operations in the valley. Our Correspondent, Aneesa Hamid, talks to the family of the slain lady.
