18 year old Tanveer Ahmad Wani of Beerwah Budgam was shot dead on 27 July 2017 by Indian Army’s 53 RR men. The incident took place on Friday in the market, when army was patrolling on the road and young student (according to locals) was grabbed and beaten by forces after he bursted a juice pouch, it created chaos among the military men. Upon seeing all this local people resisted army men and asked to release the 14 year old boy.
The situation worsened as army refused to let the boy go, upon which some youth as per police pelted stone on forces – against which army men opened fire and tried to chase the resisting youth and Tanveer was shot by bullets in his head and limbs and died, as per locals he was not among the youth who confronted the army and was hit intentionally by armed men. In this video report the parents and eyewitnesses narrate the episode.
According to Greater Kashmir a senior police officer said that a FIR No. 74 /17 under section 307 RPC stands registered against 53 RR at Police Station Beerwah.
