Shepherds in Kashmir are struggling to find enough grazing land for their animals because of the encroachment of land by locals. Grazing land which has shrunk in Shopian, Pulwama and Anantnag is adding to the woes of people who have to carry their livestock for grazing.
In almost every district of Kashmir the land is being encroached by locals. Trespassers are indulged in illegal construction activities and other encroachments on grazing land. Recently on the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan, district administrations have so far retrieved 78937 kanals of grazing land and 48896 kanals of State land from the illegal occupants.
