Located in high Himalayas, Gurez valley is home to more than 25000 Dard Shin people. However with time, many of the community members migrated to Kashmir. More than 4000 Dard Shina families reside in the villages of Kangan Ganderbal since 1975. These families demand that they shall be given benefits under the Scheduled Tribe category as has been given to their fellow members.
