Horticulture, which is a major sector, plays a key role in the economy of the Union Territory of Kashmir as it generates approximately Rs 10,000 crore income annually. As per official figures, the livelihood of 35 lakh people in the UT is directly or indirectly dependent on horticulture and is the main employment generation sector. In recent past UT administration put the trucks laden with fruits in to halt at different locations of NH44., which results in destroying the industry as fruit ripes before reaching destination.
