On May 7th, a devastating hailstorm hit the hilly areas of Shopian district, including Ramnagri, Reshnagri, Check, Sedow Rangmarg, Saidpora, and many areas. The storm caused significant damage to the apple crop, leaving farmers in deep distress. These farmers claim that their orchards are affected by hail storms every year, yet the Department of Horticulture has never surveyed their losses or provided compensation. As a result, they face mounting debt and ongoing hardship. In a conversation with Chief Horticulture Officer of Shopian, Mohammad Ramzan War, he acknowledged the lack of manpower to survey all affected areas. However, he mentioned that his team has visited several locations and estimated the losses farmers are experiencing.
