Javid Ahmad Tak, a resident of Anantnag/Islamabad town of Kashmir valley was hit with a bullet in his spine in 1990, this changed his life forever. Since then Javid is wheelchair-bound. Javid took the initiative of establishing a helpline for people with disabilities and registered the Humanity Welfare Organisation in 2003.
An organisation was set up which remains on forefront about the issues of disabled people now. The above organization works tirelessly to give livelihood to those who are unable to make their both ends meet though government support of 1000 rupees per month. We spoke with many such beneficiaries who were directly benefitted by this organisation and were helped to start their own small business units.
“We want to enable them as job creators, not as job seekers. We want to help them to live a dignified life, sometimes the circumstances forced such people to beg, but these initiatives helped them to live a dignified life,” says one of the founding members, Adil Rashid.
