Kashmir Flood Survivors still wait for compensation

Written by KashmirUnheard

As the Assembly Elections come to a close in Jammu & Kashmir, those affected by September’s floods continue to wait on relief and compensation. Will the newly formed government be able to take on this mammoth task?

This report from Lelhaar in Pulwama evidences the damage done to the lives and properties of people in the area; little has been done by way of ensuring fair compensation to people. Community Correspondent Mir Shahida reports from the area.

In a statement issued on 19th December, a senior leader of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr Sayed Altaf Bukhari appealed to the administration to hasten the relief process. He re-iterated that not enough had been done to help those who had lost their homes and businesses.

Residents of Pulwama district voted during the third phase of elections on 9th december recording a 38.31% voter turnout.
