Irfan lost his father at a tender age of six when the Indian forces shot him dead without any reason. Two years later his Uncle too, who was now acting as the guardian of his family, was murdered by the Border Security Forces (BSF) while he was at his shop. These two cold-blooded murders came as a shock for Irfan who later joined a pro-freedom (separatist) group in his hometown Baramula. Earlier he had a desire to join the police force.
