Since last few decades, not only the water quality of this famed freshwater lake in Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir has deteriorated but its area too has got shrunk. The excessive weed growth in this lake has choked it to a great extent. The sewage from the city areas which is emptied into this lake has multiplied the weed growth. Even though the authorities are spending millions every year for its restoration, but there seems no change on the ground and the lake is fast turning into a cesspool. Afroza Mahed reports
