There are contradictory statements about the encounter in which local rebel commander, including his couple of associates, was slain in south Kashmir’s Bemdoora village of Kokernag area in Anantnag district . The gunfight between the government forces and the rebels was brief which raised eyebrows about the authenticity of this encounter. Three days after the encounter, a total of ten houses have been burnt down by the charged crowd, who believed that the rebels were poisoned before killing them after the locals informed the police and army about the presence of three militants in the house of the maternal uncle of Sartaj Ahmed, one of the slain rebel. This claim, however, couldn’t be verified as most of the people are scared of the repercussions or lack the proper evidence. Three local rebels including Burhan Wani, Sartaj Sheikh and Parvez Ahmed were gunned down by the forces, according to police.
