Plight of a Half Widow of Sumbal village in Kashmir – Aneesa Reports

Written by Shafat

Ghulam Nabi Parra from Sumbal area of Bandipora district was picked up by the government forces and remains disappeared since 1994. His wife, Nandi Begum, is living the life of a half widow in abject poverty since then. Halfwidow is a term given to Kashmiri women whose husbands have disappeared and were still missing during the ongoing conflict in Kashmir. These women are called “halfwidows” because they have no idea whether their husbands are dead or alive. Aneesa Hamid has this story to share with us.
