Shaheena Bano, a 35 year old lady succumbed four days after she delivered her second child at the LD hospital, where she underwent a cesarean on June 2 after her condition had worsened by a shot of blood platelets injected into her hours before the surgery. The family blames doctors and administration of neglect and demand that a case be filed against the hospital. Shaheena’s husband Tahir Ahmad has went from pillar to post to get justice but has not been successful, he also filed an RTI to seek information about certain things and is finding the actual reason of her death. The family is in protest against the administration and claims that it is a case of medical negligence, the FIR has not been registered in the matter.

About 830 women die from pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications around the world every day. Surprisingly J&K has so far not conducted maternal mortality ratio survey, an important indicator of the pregnant women. Though the Government has said that a survey is being conducted by Directorate of Economics and Statistics, but so far it has not been submitted to the Government.
