In December 2015, State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) was introduced by the government to support the marriage of unmarried identified girls of the State living below the poverty line who may not find themselves in a position to marry due to financial constraint. Under this scheme, every person from the category is given 25000 Rupees and 5 gm gold as assistance.
While as Yasmeen and Rifat of Lelhaar Pulwama were married off by their parents in year 2016 and 2017 respectively, had applied for the assistance from Social Welfare Department. Till now they have not received anything under the scheme. Ghulam Rasool Dar their father, sold his land to marry his daughters.
