water mill is a mill that uses hydro-power. It is a structure that uses a water wheel or water turbine to drive a mechanical process such as milling (grinding), rolling or hammering. Such processes are needed in the production of many material goods, including flour, lumber, paper textiles and many metal products. these water mills may comprise gristmills, sawmills, paper mills, textile mills, hammer mills, trip hammering mills, rolling mills, wire drawing mills.

In Kashmir water mill or water grinder ( AabbGrat ) has been used mostly in production of flour. This video throws light on indigenous technique of grinding flour by utilizing water resource as a means of power for local consumption of flour locally produced and processed for daily use in Budgam district.

This indigenous technique appears to be simple and efficient in operation and sustainable without compromising the natural endowments and environment. As we know the resources in the present day materialistic world are getting depleted and exhausted at an alarming pace and with every passing day need arises to preserve the resources and of utilizing sustainable means of energy and techniques for a better tomorrow.
