Pellet Guns Continue to Snatch Eyesight and Cripple People in Kashmir

In the year 2013, Talib Hussain (55), along with his family which includes his wife and three children decided to move from Rajouri to Shopian to find work and make a living, and also offer an opportunity for his children to study. Living in a tent made of tarpaulin in a Shopian village, Talib and his family’s dreams were shattered after Ilyas, the son of Talib was injured in his eyes by pellets fired by the Indian forces during a sudden gunbattle that took place in a nearby orchard in which one militant was killed. At the time of the incident, he was working in the field. It was 28th May 2021. The family has been struggling with the expenses for treatment since then and in the absence of accountability, the pellet guns continue to blind people. Police have mentioned that there was an incident of stone-pelting as well in Ganavpora village.
