Saffron Growers of Kashmir Struggle due to Low Rates and Lack of Irrigation Facilities

This is the Saffron harvesting season in Kashmir. Kashmir grows saffron on 3700 hectares of land, although there was an increase of 30% in the production however, several cultivators from the Chandhara Pampore also known as the Saffron Village of Kashmir are facing difficulties to meet their ends with the low rates of Saffron and its reduced production due to the lack of proper irrigation facilities provided to them by the government.

A kilogram of the spice can cost up to $4,000.
