12 year old, Imitiaz Ahmad Thokar, an orphan was blinded in one eye when pellets were shot at him by paramilitary forces in Meemandar village of Shopian. It was 27th of May this year when he was hit by pellets in both of his eyes and he is fighting with darkness since then, he has been recommended not put his head up for three months by the doctors. Till now her mother has spent more than One lakh Rupees for his treatment and she has borrowed that from neighbours.
In June this year the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir-headed committee tasked with identifying pellet victims with grievous eye-injuries for compensation has recommended that the victims who have lost vision in both eyes be given Rs 4 lakh each. Officials also said a proposal for compensating those whose one eye has been “completely blinded” by pellet shotguns is also under “active consideration”.
