Pulwama: Incomplete KGBV School Building Turns Safe Haven for Drug Addicts

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) education program was launched to eradicate gender disparities in rural education and under the same program, the construction of such a school was started in 2007 in Mughalpora Pulwama. The building was left incomplete and over the past years, it has become a hub for illegal activities according to the locals of this village. The scheme was introduced by GoI in 2004 and integrated with the already existing Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to provide elementary educational facilities to SC and other backward class girls in educationally backward blocks. In the last 13 years the building remains incomplete and has been turned into a hub for drug peddling. When this correspondent contacted CEO Pulwama Soni Sanam she said the construction of buildings is not falling in her domain, and is done by the engineering wing of the department, but she assured this CC that the work will start soon and a caretaker will be appointed.
