8000 People Forced to Drink Unclean Water as a Filtration Unit Remains Dysfunctional in Kupwara

In the year 2008, a water filtration plant was constructed in Kanipora Village of Kalaroos block to supply drinking water to the villages of Lystiyal and Madmadoo with a population of more than 8000. This water filtration plant was never made to function as Sideeq Ahmad a local resident was promised a job against his land he provided for its construction, which the Jal Shakti department has failed to fulfil so far. Sideeq is not allowing the authorities to use this plant. People are now being forced to drink water from a nearby stream that is polluted due to a crusher cum hot mixing plant operating on its banks.
