National Food Security Act has been implemented since February this year. According to this act, the eligible persons will be entitled to receive 5 Kgs of foodgrains per person per month at subsidised prices of Rs. 3/2/1 per Kg for rice/wheat/coarse grains. But in Kashmir, where the chief food is rice, many see it as a bane because the quantity of rice to be provided will be lesser than what they consume per month on an average. Rafiqa Bano reports from Kashmir’s Budgam district.
