Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) on Saturday released a video of the mother of Handwara girl who was assaulted by the army personnel while she was inside the washroom. The incident had triggered huge demonstration in the town resulting in three deaths on that same day after army and police fired on the angry protesters. Subsequently, the video statement of the girl, shot in the police station, was circulated across social media networks in which she was heard accusing the youth of fomenting the trouble. Now her mother says that her daughter was made to speak in duress and make a false allegation by the army and police. The mother of the victim was supposed to talk to media today but police detained the woman and the organizers inside the JKCCS office and no media personnel was provided with the access.
In the backdrop of events happening since the sexual assault, five people have been killed in army firing including a woman. The Kashmir valley remained shut for the fifth consecutive day against the killings and the authorities have snapped the mobile internet services in most of the Kashmir region while imposing a curfew at many places.
This video has been shot inside their (JKCCS) office at Amira Kadal in summer capital Srinagar.
