Shopian is a well-known district for apple production owing to this the town is called as ‘apple bowl of Kashmir’. Its apple orchards produce nearly 2 lakh tons of apples every year. This year an uncommon disease spread at the orchards of Shopian district which damages the leaves of apple trees. People are in distress and demand departmental assistance to eradicate the disease so that next year this does not happen again.

Also the Department of Horticulture has bought a tractor in 2010 which is parked at the lawn of Chief Horticulture Office. The tractor has been never used since then owing to this its many parts caught rust. Farmer want to make it functional.

Meanwhile, government had set up a juice cum jam canning center in the nineties but after few years the center was shifted to Abhama Pulwama despite knowing the fact that Shopian is producing a huge quantity of C grade apple which is used in making juice or jam as compared to Pulwama.
